Hadoop - An Interesting Conversation before the training

This discussion was with the trainer from www.xcelframeworks.com for a Hadoop session

Q) Why we go for Hadoop Training ?

With the growing adoption of Apache Hadoop as the platform for big data analysis across various industries, the need for IT professionals with expertise in operating Hadoop clusters is increasing rapidly. The power and flexibility of this platform also presents compelling opportunities to develop new data-driven services on Hadoop and HBase, making "Hadoop developer" one of the most sought after skills in the software industry. There has never been a better time to get Hadoop training.

Q) Will I be provided hadoop complete set of videos even if I join physical classroom training?
Ans : yes you will be provided with blog access that will have the videos?

Q) Can you share the course content of Hadoop training that will be taken up?
Ans :Yes it will be shared with you in startup kit along with courseware and complete software dvd.
Q)  How much practical knowledge of Hadoop usage alongwith its theoretical concepts can be expected?
Ans :We believe in hands-on so this three days training will be done in workshop model with 75% hands-on.

Q) It will be better if you can share the hardware and software requirements before the candidates walk-in to the class room.I hope internet facility will be available.

Ans : You need not worry we will do the setup and provide you with system,Internet will be availaiable.
Q) How much database, storage and networking knowledge is reqd to not only understand hadoop but to make it as a career later?
Ans : No prerequisite is their for this training we take it up from scratch.
Q) For getting recruited by any company and not having experience in database or related technologies so far and directly jumping to hadoop , will it become any hindrance towards opportunity?

Ans : No it would not as its different stream itself .Since Hadoop is not meant for a particular kind of data recruitment companies will not look for DB admin or other capabilities. They will look for a profile capable  of managing hadoop clusters.

Q) Can you please share a case Study ?

Ans : Yes , Please find below

Company A – Innovative e-Commerce Retailer

Company A is an innovative e-commerce retailer that sells a diverse set of products and services. Their distinctive is to provide their customers with an exciting online shopping experience tailored to their needs, along with superb service. The success factor for Company A is to know more about their customers so they can cater to them better. The Director of Data Engineering for Company A was interviewed. He has a team of twelve persons, whom are part of a technology group supporting data warehousing, business intelligence, and analytics. He described their focus as, “ensuring that everyone in the company has better access to the relevant data for marketing optimization and the A/B testing platform.” His group is… “Growing very well and am totally psyched about it.”
He continued by explaining the business problem and their approach… “Our goal is to be more responsive to the customer – to have a finger on the pulse of what’s going on. By integrating and analyzing data about the website behavior of customers, we can draw relationships that others may not have seen. It is more than data integration; it is pattern recognition.”
His team integrates clickstream information with email logs, ad viewing, and operational data “to figure out what is going on with our customer.” This data was used to support A/B testing and multivariate testing to track the entire customer’s experience – from searching for the product, ordering it, receiving the package, and even product returns, all to optimize the experience for the customer.
Architecture
He described the evolution of their architecture over the past two years… “The company was just a hundred people two years ago. We had no analytic tools. Our team was just two people and me. Given our tradition of doing things in an innovative way, we started using MapReduce with Apache Hadoop for analytics. However, we knew that this architecture would not be sufficient. We needed to build a data warehouse. In addition, Cognos and Spotfire were previously purchased and had a user base that required support. So, we investigated other analytic platforms, such as Aster Data (before its acquisition by Teradata), Oracle, Vertica, Greenplum, and MongoDB.”
About a year ago, the team acquired Teradata Aster to complement their Hadoop platform. The Teradata Aster platform is being used as a reporting platform, along with its analytic processing for discovering new insights beyond reporting.
When asked about the reasons for deciding on Teradata Aster, he explained, “I explain what I need to the Aster folks. We immediately had a good working relationship with some quality Aster folks. The project quickly gelled into place and has worked successfully over the past year.” Teradata Aster Database allows the team to analyze more of these potential behavior patterns in a stable and scalable way. In particular, the distributed parallel nature of the Teradata Aster discovery platform allows reasonable computation times with large data sets.
The Hadoop cold storage contains data that is infrequently accessed. By using Amazon EC2, the company is able “to absorb large data volumes with fluctuating demands” and then, as needed, transfers data sets to Amazon Elastic MapReduce. He offered some general observations about the Hadoop platform…
“Hadoop Distributed File System is the sexy part of the Apache Hadoop project. It is open-source and allows the problem solving qualities of MapReduce to really shine. It is a brilliantly simple framework that works well.”

Case Study:2

The Hadoop cold storage contains data that is infrequently accessed. By using Amazon EC2, the company is able “to absorb large data volumes with fluctuating demands” and then, as needed, transfers data sets to Amazon Elastic MapReduce. He offered some general observations about the Hadoop platform…
“Hadoop Distributed File System is the sexy part of the Apache Hadoop project. It is open-source and allows the problem solving qualities of MapReduce to really shine. It is a brilliantly simple framework that works well.”
Architecture
Company B processes 5.5 terabytes or 36 billion rows of clickstream data every day from digital media, site behavior, social media, and offline media. In media speak, that’s about 400 billion media impressions per year.
The daily process uses Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR) to cleanse and aggregate the clickstream data into transactional cookie-level (or session-level) data, which passes to Aster Database for advanced analysis. In addition, the large data sets are retained in Amazon S3 cold storage for future analysis.
The transactional data is partitioned among their clients. Clients have their separate custom data marts so that the client data is not co-mingled. The client data is optimized and structured as custom OLAP cubes for use by our internal client teams. Reporting to the clients about digital marketing performance is performed from these cubes.
Company B built a data mart customized to the unique business requirements for each client. Access to the client data mart is primarily by our internal teams. Though there is high-level reporting directly to clients so that they can understand why we decided on certain advertising optimizations. Clients need to know why Company B has moved their funds from one advertising channel to another.

How to handle pressure during examination

Examinations are nothing but a platform to test the preparations. Its neither starting of the world not an end and also its not the final assessment of a student or his preparation. Its a known fact that examinations are a crucial juncture for which every one is worried about irrespective of how much he or she has prepared but even when you are prepared 100 %, the pressure ore we should say extra unwanted pressure will result in decreasing your efficiency by 50 %. Got exams coming up? A little exam stress is inevitable, but make sure you don't fall into.

Its always advised to be prepared for the examination. Preparation can depend of level of examination. We suggest not to treat examination as question of Do or Die rather a better preparation can turn examination into a simple cake walk.  This preparation includes the plan that one should make in order to answer the questions. The planning should not be made on the day of examination but we should set few weeks before examination and solve mock papers on the same planning. This will help us to answer efficiently and will feel a lot confidant as we know how to tackle the situation.

We should also have different plans for different kind of papers. In CBSE examination pattern almost all the papers are kept under one category and planing may suit all the subjects but approach to solve, what to start , and how much to answer can be learned through the CBSE Sample papers. We should solve this sample papers again and again to minimize the stress that comes once a new pattern that was their in the CBSE sample papers but was an unseen for us appears during the examination.
Last Night Effort.
A term that lot of students use to define the strength that they have over mugging the subjects but maximum time it has resulted in a lot of panic during examination because last minute preparation gives least confidence to students and it can never replace a long term strategically study. We can over come this by having  a revision timetable and start planning well before exams begin. With this we should also set realistic goals and include breaks. We should make sure to get some fresh air or have the window open while studying where possible. Its no harm in being methodical, make books, notes and essays user-friendly so that it serves a better purpose at the critical juncture of examination. We should use headings, highlighting and revision cards, and get tips on other revision techniques from teachers and friends with experience of exams.

How to get speed and accurecy during exam

As the examination patterns are changing across the globe in almost every section and  level of competition, bigger question lies not only on the knowledge level of the participant but also on his speed and accuracy. One more enhancement that has led to a lot of emphasis on speed is that almost all competitive examination are turning onto an online platform and even their in the form of MCQs. So speed and accuracy is one part that one must have in his or her armory. Its a very common phenomenon in competitive examinations like JEE, CAT and IIT that despite having a good command over the subjects even laborious students are not able to score as expected because of their knowledge level is due to lack of planning as how to divide the  examination into different categories, allocate time and then assign the speed to them.Lot of time when we look back at question papers we  think that oh we could have answered if little time was their or how could I miss the last page of the question paper. Its better to get prepared than to remorse after the papers.

Now the big question is how to increase one's speed in examinations? In this blog we'll focus more on competitive examinations like IIT, CAT and JEE. We'll discuss about speed in board examinations in a different blog.

Get Prepared for the battle

Its always good to be ready for the decisive days. Planning a proper travel that gives you ample time to sit and adjust at the examination center may help you to get through certain early questions easily. Getting proper artilery for the examination is definitely required but its better and advised if we use same kind of stationary for last few weeks before examination can give us an edge at the time of " What to use when needed".

Focus on pre requsits

It may not look as required as it sounds but its so easy and simple that often students take this for granted. Writing name filling details may not be a tiresom job so always make a habbit of filling these details befor you start the actual paper so that its never in back of your mind as a burden that may create panic or writing too fast that may end up in filling of wrong informations.

Habit of reading fast and to read between the lines.

Reading too slow or trying to read and understand a lot during examination may kill a lot of time and result in a panic situation at the end. Its better to make a habit of reading and understanding questions and summarizing in some small paragraphs prior to examination. We can adopt a policy of writing gist of questions when we start preparing for the examinations.

Importance of CBSE in Entrance Examinations

We always see a list of writers/ Subject matter experts at the starting of every CBSE book, but most of the time we take the syllabus seriously and content casually. For every subject we refer a lot of books apart from the main course i.e. CBSE books. We'll discuss the importance of CBSE books and its relevance from the prospective of competitive examinations.

As CBSE is the a common format followed by maximum school across the length and breadth of the country so most of the competitive examination papers are formed keeping the syllabus and the pattern what CBSE follows to keep all the aspirants on a common level. More than this, the syllabus is so well structured and engineered that every topic has minimum pre requisites. Earlier CBSE was questioned on the pattern as CBSE focused only on rich content and CBSE board examinations could have been cleared by reading just CBSE sample papers but now as the competition has grown up a lot. CBSE has brought a drastic change in its format and has become more of an activity based learning. It has and is helping students to grasp the motto behind forming the question and they are now able to form the structure of answers in their minds.

CBSE chairman says that, the board aims at preparing a curriculum as per the demand and the changes across the learning and development needs and current educational system. Hence CBSE designs an international curriculum that will facilitate all Indian students in pursuing higher education abroad or participate significantly in international markets for country’s development.

Students aiming for better results in competitive examinations go for better question formats and tough levels. CBSE in exercise at the end as well as after almost every important topic as per the syllabus have introduced all levels so that students either aiming for just marks or students aiming for competitive examination both will get a better practice.

It has been the culture of all competitive examinations to introduce a lot of innovation in preparing the question papers, so its not necessary that if you solve only tough questions then only you'll be able to clear examinations. Its all about clearing the basic rules and creating a strong base of important fundamentals and that what CBSE is best in.If you analyze each activity and important colored boxes in the text book, it emphasizes on the concepts that are useful in creating a strong conceptual base that helps in clearing new unseen questions in competitive examinations.

Education - Price game in India ?

Higher Education in India-Does Money Really Matters

Its a dream come true for any student interested in maths/science to clear competitive examination and get selected among best of the best education institutes like IITs/NITs and good regional colleges. Preparing for the examination is definitely an essential prerequisite but, Should parents or students worry about the fee structure of colleges / coaching fees etc.

I think its better to prepare a plan for finances as well, because at the end of the day as it is said “Money Matters". We'll go through coaching ( Demography wise ) for preparation in India keeping finances in mind and then to educational institutes and then to aids given by govt or private organisations for students during the journey.

Kota

Kota is the home to the country's largest cluster of tutorial service providers. The first name that comes in the mind of aspirants for preparation soon board exams are over is a small town in Rajasthan " Kota ". Prices for the courses are almost same for all the individual, Few scholarships are offered ( More sort of discounts ) based on Board results. You can find To-Let boards on every corner of the city and its easy for any new comer to find a place to live in the place. Expenses are minimum as the city got developed and know as an educational hub. yes you have cinema halls and chai points for gup - shup and fun, so its not at all monotonous life in quota.

New Delhi

I always keep New Delhi in second place for preparation because of the distraction it brings in the life of students. Delhi is the heart of the Nation and all the pros and cons of social, political, economical changes has a great impact on the educational environment of the State ( UT). Resource wise it’s same as Kota but living in Delhi is expensive than kota.

We don't have a culture of scholarship in India for engineering colleges. Top colleges have a very nominal fee and almost all the banks are ready to provide financial help if needed by the students.

Student eligibility:

1) Should be an Indian National
2)  Secured admission to professional/ technical courses in India or Abroad through Entrance Test/ Merit Based Selection process.

Courses eligible

1) Graduation courses: BA, B.Com. B.Sc. etc.
2) Post Graduation courses: Masters & PhD.
3) Professional courses: Engineering, Medical, Agriculture, Veterinary, Law, Dental, Management, Computer etc.
4) Computer certificate courses of reputed institutes accredited to Dept. of Electronics or institutes affiliated to university.
5) Courses like ICWA, CA, CFA etc.
6) Courses conducted by IIM, IIT, IISc, XLRI. NIFT  etc. Regular    Degree/Diploma courses like Aeronautical, pilot training,        shipping etc., approved by Director General of Civil            Aviation/Shipping, if the course is pursued in India.

In case the course is pursued abroad, the Institute should be recognized by the competent local aviation/shipping authority

7) Courses offered in India by reputed foreign universities.
8) Evening courses of approved institutes.
9) Other courses leading to diploma/ degree etc. conducted by colleges/ universities approved by UGC/ Govt. / AICTE/ AIBMS/ ICMR etc
10) Courses offered by National Institutes and other reputed private institutions. Banks may have the system of appraising other institution courses depending on future prospects/ recognition by user institutions.
11) Courses, which are not covered under the criteria mentioned above, individual banks may take a view to consider extending
12) Education loan under the scheme taking into account the future prospects/recognition by user institution.

Expenses considered for loan

1. Fees payable to college/school/hostel
2. Examination/Library/Laboratory fees
3. Purchase of Books/Equipment/Instruments/ Uniforms, Purchase of computers- essential for completion of the course (maximum 20% of the total tuition fees payable for completion of the course)
4. Caution Deposit/Building Fund/Refundable Deposit (maximum 10% tuition fees for the entire course)
5. Travel Expenses/Passage money for studies abroad
6. Cost of a Two-wheeler upto Rs. 50,000/-

Its still a challenge for the govt to provide proper help for the upcoming technocrats the country. Govt is working in that direction and we hope in future will get good govt aids.
